The gulf
coast counties of the State of Texas are exposed to damage
from hurricane caused wind, water and flooding. The State of
Texas has established codes to help protect these areas from
extensive damage by implementing building requirements to
resist the winds and related problems caused by hurricanes.
The Texas
Department of Insurance, Windstorm Inspections Division is
charged with the responsibility of obtaining compliance with
the State Standards. To assist with the large amount of
construction in the coastal counties, the Department of
Insurance has certified qualified licensed professional
engineers to perform compliance inspections and
certification to the State.
Certification by a Texas Department of Insurance approved
engineer will allow the structure owner to obtain insurance
through the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association for
properties located in hurricane prone areas of Texas.
